Buser Reaches The Yukon First!

And Is Greeted With A Seven Course Meal

IDITAROD XXXV Musher Martin Buser (Bib # 19) is the first to arrive in the picturesque village of Anvik, on the banks of the longest river in Alaska, the mighty Yukon River. The Four time Iditarod Champion from Big Lake Alaska was greeted with the sound of the Anvik Village church bell and the scent of a seven course meal courtesy of the Millennium Hotel Anchorage, proud sponsor of the “Last Great Race to Nome, at 10:45 this morning with 14 dogs.

As the recipient of the “First Musher to the Yukon Award”, Buser was treated to a seven course meal prepared by Millennium’s Executive Chef, Mick Hug. This year’s menu consists of a king crab apple tower with horseradish cream, followed by smoked corn bisque and goat cheese dumpling. The main courses include a seafood course of prawns and scallops with pancetta and pomegranate mustard and a meat course of seared ostrich medallions. The final three courses for the feast are a jicama salad followed by bittersweet chocolate crepes and a cheese plate with pear poached in port. A carefully selected fine wine is served with each plate.

Buser’s “after dinner mint” of 3,500 crisp $1 bills was presented by Millennium’s Food and Beverage manager Brooke McGrath.
