MEDIA ADVISORY-RAMY BROOKS INCIDENT
by Richard Burmeister, President ITC
TO: Media, Mushers, Race Veterinarians, Race Officials, Volunteers, Fans & Other Interested Parties
We’ve received a number of phone calls and emails inquiring as to what, if anything, is going on in regards to Ramy Brooks and the incident in Golovin. What has happened, and what is happening, is this:
WHAT HAS HAPPENED – Under the Rules, Race officials had to make decisions under time constraints which out of necessity limited the scope of their investigations. In fact, Race Officials did impose the ultimate sanction which they are empowered to impose.
WHAT IS HAPPENING – On 3/22 we settled on a course of action to continue to evaluate and investigate the incident as there were differences in the reports of witnesses versus what has been acknowledged by Ramy. We have asked legal to put together a plan to continue to investigate the incident, independently of ITC and Race Staff. Thus far, we’ve collected and forwarded all information known to us and asked that the evaluation and investigation be concluded prior to our regularly scheduled (April 27) meeting of the board of directors. If warranted, any further sanctions must be under the censure portion of Rule 51, which could only happen before the ITC’s Board Of Directors.
I hope this is helpful to you.
