The Iditarod Trail Committee announced today that 92 mushers have signed up to run the 2008 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. The most recent mushers to sign up are rookies Richard Savoyski from Palmer Alaska and Rich Corcoran from Valdez Alaska. At this time 31 rookies and 61 Iditarod race veterans are entered in IDITAROD XXXVI.
Rookies that enter the “Last Great Race” are required to attend a two day conference dedicated to indoctrinating them into just what it takes to start and finish the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. This year’s Rookie Meeting begins on December 1st, at the Official Iditarod Trail Race Headquarters in Anchorage Alaska, the Millennium Hotel Anchorage.
The curriculum for the Rookie Meeting specifically addresses everything from food drop preparations, to training plans and logistics strategies. But the largest block of instruction is focused on animal care.

The last day for IDITAROD XXXVI mushers to sign up is Friday, November 30th, 2007, at 5pm Alaska Time.
