Will 2009 Be The Year?

Will this be the year that Lance Mackey three-peats? In the history of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race only two other mushers have ever accomplished the feat of winning three Iditarods in a row, the legendary Susan Butcher and the outsider from Montana, Doug Swingley.

Will this be the year King makes it number five? Iditarod Champion Jeff King’s the end game is “to win.” King won his fourth Iditarod in 2006 and almost won it again in 08.

Will this be the year another four time Iditarod Champion makes it to Front Street first? Martin Buser would love nothing more than to become the second Iditarod Champion to win The Iditarod five times.

Will this be the year 2004 Iditarod Champion, Mitch Seavey claims his second crown? In the 2008 Iditarod, Seavey finished in seventh place. Shortly after that he won the All Alaska Sweepstakes. He came off the 2008 racing season with a great win (with the Sweepstakes), and he intends to pickup in 2009 where I left off in 2008.”

Will this be the year for the “Swenson factor”? Five time Iditarod Champion Rick Swenson has run the Iditarod 32 times. He has been in the top ten 24 times. He holds the record that two four time champions will undoubtedly be vying for, and he is running the 2009 Iditarod with every intention of winning. Yeah, the 2009 Iditarod just could be the year.
