Plowing the Trail

This is a great view from the Insider Eye in the Sky of Martin Buser's team plowing through fresh snow on his way to Ophir

The Race is On!

While mushers began strategizing what they would do after their 24 hour mandatory rest was completed, one team in the mix must of felt like things were getting a little too crowded. Earlier today 4 time Iditarod Champion Martin Buser made his way through Takotna Checkpoint from McGrath, and decided to just keep going. He ended up in Ophir at 4:50 pm Alaska time all alone.  Meanwhile back at the place where the greatest baked pies on the planet reside (Takotna Lodge) Aaron Burmeister waits, knowing he can’t leave until 2:44 am Alaska time on March 12. But Aaron will not be alone as he heads toward Ophir and beyond.

There Will Be Three…

Mushers right on Burmeister’s heels. Canadians Hugh Neff and Sebastian Schnuelle will be joined by 2 time Iditarod Champion Lance Mackey. All three will be taking off within an hour of Burmeister. And more will definitely follow. The 2009 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race has shifted gear, and now Mother Nature will be joining the front of the pack as they begin the second part of this journey called Iditarod. Will Mother Nature provide safe travel for them or will she decide to dance all around them. We’ll know soon enough!
