A Look At The 2008 Restart on Willow Lake

2007/2008 Iditarod Champion Lance Mackey leaves the starting line as a sea of race fans cheer him on. This year he's shooting for three in a row!

Thousands Gather to Celebrate the Start…

Of Iditarod 2009.  The Official Start of “The Last Great Race” began under a beautiful blue sky as 67 mushers (and their IditaRiders) made their way through the canyon of downtown Anchorage buildings toward the outstretched edges of Anchorage to their first day final destination of the Campbell Science Center 11 miles east of 4th Avenue. Tomorrow marks the beginning of a journey that will culminate in Nome Alaska a thousand miles north.  At 2 pm Alaska time (6 pm Eastern time) the clock begins… and the race lights up on www.iditarod.com!

Live coverage of the Restart…

Begins at 1:45 Alaska Time on the Iditarod Insider. Streaming coverage of the teams heading up the trail will continue until the last team leaves the chute on Willow Lake in Willow Alaska. Please note that this year each team will be carrying the Insider GPS Tracker. As teams leave the chute Insider Trackers will be able to watch the teams head up the trail via Insider mapping. Check it out… it’s a very interactive way to really watch the drama unfold!

Don’t Forget To…

Spring an hour forward as we transition to Daylight Savings Time tomorrow. That gives teams an opportunity to enjoy one more hour of daylight as they begin moving into the Alaska Range. Weather conditions in the Alaska Range are calling for snow, which could play a key role in how teams determine their strategies. It’s definitely going to be fun to watch this drama unfold! We’ll see you online at www.iditarod.com tomorrow.
