6th graders in Jane Blaile’s science class at Christ Lutheran School used the scientific method to put her Teacher on the Trail gear to the test.
After identifying the independent and dependent variables, they hypothesized how much warmer their hands/feet would be INSIDE her trail gear as compared to the temperature of the ice water OUTSIDE the gear. They wrote out a materials list and steps for the testing procedure.
They discovered that their hands and feet were much warmer inside than outside the gear. Also, they identified which gear pieces kept their hands and feet warmer than others. Their conclusion? Proper Arctic gear will keep a person warm along the Iditarod Trail!
