Dear Zuma,Why is Wayne Curtis going farther back every time i look he is always 5 spaces back? My brother chose him . My girl Sigrid ekran is in 5 place she is doing really doing good compared to last year’s race.

Zuma my class is learning about the iditarod and we all picked a person in the race to watch over them and see what place their in. I picked Sigrid Ekran so far she’s in 5 place while my brothers is in 55 place. Is therre a problem with Wayne Curtis ? Please tell me my brother is worried that he might scratch. Annelisea

Hello,
It is really hard to tell who is in the lead because lots of mushers pass each other on the trail. Dogs run and rest, run and rest, and run and rest. Dogs that are running pass dogs that are resting. After mushers start taking 24 hour lay overs, you can start to tell who the leaders are.

Dear Zuma,
How long does the Iditarod Race usually last? Also, who do you usually run for? I am sometimes confused about Military time too!

Hello Emma,
Don’t worry about being confused about military time, it takes practice to know and understand it! The race ends when the last musher finishes the race. The number of days can be different each year. You should make a guess as to when the race is over.

Zuma you rock,I love you! Your website is so cool, I read lots of it. How is the weather down there in Alaska? It rained a lot in Michigan,and we lost most of our snow,but we are getting it back,we are going to get six inches. I want it to be spring,or summer,really bad. That is what I like it about Michigan,because we get all the seasons,Winter,Spring,Summer,and Fall. Anyway,I got to go.

Hugs to your Zuma. This is your retired teacher friend checking in for this years Iditarod. My students loved to keep track of the mushers, and hoping the musher they selected from the hat would be the winner.
