Sleepy Times!

cimg4370.jpg Hello Boys and Girls,

As promised, I went down to the area behind the Millennium Hotel, Iditarod Race Headquarters, where the dogs returning from the trail snooze while waiting for their humans to pick them up and take them home.

Snooze is right!  Who wouldn’t take a long snooze when covered up in cozy blankets?

The sled dogs were sound asleep when I walked past.  Most didn’t even open their eyes to say hello to me.

The brightly covered blankets that covered the dogs made me howl a little silly, sleepy, howl song about snoring sled dogs.  Even with my little howl, my fur friends relaxed and snoozed.

It was great to see them and to know that they are all so healthy and relaxed!

Lots of Tail Wags,

Zuma

  6. Dear Zuma, Thanks for the pictures, the dogs are adorable!!, but not as adorable as you. Why don’t the dogs cuddle with each other, I only noticed two of the dogs barely snuggling? Also, do they have their own blankets or do they just get a blanket? Who provides the blankets? Have a great day Zuma! Your buddy, Anson

Hello! The dog blankets are provided for the doggies. The dog handlers provide them for the dogs. Every dog gets to use a blanket but it is sort of neat how a couple dogs seemed to snuggle next to each other. These dogs are all such good friends with each other!

  7. Hi My name is Kade I love dogs and i really like the Iditarod. I listen and look for updates every day and see who is in the lead. I love to watch the dogs run. My Friend Judi Was a teacher on the Trail and she got to meet Jeff King and see how everything is up there she taught me so much stuff about the Iditarod i didn’t even know.I am in third grade and i have two dogs i really wish we could move up to Alaska and train some dogs for the Junior Iditarod. Sice i’m not quite old enough to do that my sister would be doing most of the work i would just help her feed the dogs and take care of them. From Kade Please send back

Thanks for posting a comment, Kade! I’m glad you are following the race. Judi is a GREAT teacher! Lots of Tail Wags, Zuma

Hello Taylor, Nope! The dogs don’t sleep all of the time…. I was lucky to get there at doggie nap time!

  9. Last year was the first year I followed the race with our school. We were surprised to find a Canadian racer with our last name. He was not a rookie and did finish. Yet this year I cannot find anything about his kennel or anything? Is there a way I can find out? Clint Warnke website was warnkeracing.something is even gone.

  28. The blankets are beautiful and they have bright colors. The dogs were so cute. Also the pictures were cute and funny. Is there a particular amount of hours dogs sleep?

The dogs back from the race sleep when they are tired. Like humans, they sleep the number of hours they need to get rest.
